The 75% attendance rule requires students to attend at least 75% of total classes held to be eligible for appearing in examinations. This rule is enforced by CBSE, ICSE, state boards, UGC, and AICTE across India.
Attendance percentage is calculated using the formula: (Classes Attended รท Total Classes) ร 100. For example, if you attended 75 out of 100 classes, your attendance percentage is (75 รท 100) ร 100 = 75%.
You can miss up to 25% of total classes. For example: 100 classes โ miss up to 25, 150 classes โ miss up to 37, 200 classes โ miss up to 50.
If attendance falls below 75%, you may be debarred from appearing in exams. Some institutions allow condonation (usually up to 10%) in special cases like medical emergencies.
Average attendance = (Sum of all attendance percentages รท Number of periods). Example: (80+75+85+78) รท 4 = 79.5%.
Monthly attendance = (Days Present in Month รท Total Working Days in Month) ร 100.
Weekly attendance = (Classes Attended in Week รท Total Classes in Week) ร 100.
Yearly attendance = (Classes Attended in Year รท Total Classes in Year) ร 100.
Average monthly attendance = (Sum of all monthly attendance percentages รท Number of months).
Use the formula: =(Attended/Total)*100. Example: If Attended is in B2 and Total in A2, use =(B2/A2)*100. Format as percentage.
In Excel: =(Attended_Cell/Total_Cell)*100. Then format the cell as percentage.
The formula is: =SUM(Attended_Range)/SUM(Total_Range)*100 for overall attendance.
